Supervisor Meeting 29th Novemeber

I have just received more questionnaires back. In the meeting we went over the literature review so far and came up with several ideas. By the next supervisor meeting I need to have finished the review. I have also been looking for origami for the back of my CV.

The next supervisor meeting is December 13Th. In this meeting we are going to set out what work needs to be completed over the December and January period.

Last week I have been checking up on my last two clients and how far the questionnaires are coming. I am also planning my interview for my main client.

Friday 16th supervisor meeting

During brake in virtual environments lecture I had another supervisor meeting. This meeting went as well as could be expected seen as a series of events led to my work being deleted. All the work was retyped Friday morning, however this meant I did not have time to finish my literature review.

During this meeting we went over my introduction and its pros and cons.
We also talked about how many questionnaires I had sent out and received back. I have sent out seventy which is quite a lot but I am still waiting for forty to be returned by two surgeries.

Between now and next meeting I need to re-write my introduction and finish writing my review. By then I would also like to have all my questionnaires back in and start analysing the data. I have also started thinking about my main clients interview.

Writing My Introduction and Other Updates

Today I have started writing up my introduction along with my literature review. I have not got as far as I wanted as I have also been working on my DFMA project. Tomorrow I will continue writing these part.

Today I also emailed my supervisor to organise our next meeting as we didn't sort this last meeting.

On the questionnaire front i am still waiting on the last forty to come back from two of my surgeries.

Analysing Data

Today I've bee analysing my data from my journals and books. After reading the journals I have found several facts about the age of onset for anxiety in dental care. I have also been researching several subject areas that came up in the journals.

The first key area is the Dental Anxiety Scale (DAS). This has come in very useful as when typed into a search engine a lot more information comes up which i require for my dissertation. I found the questionnaire to work out the dental anxiety scale so now the information in the journals can be analysed further. I can now compare the levels of anxiety found on this scale as well as the percentage for the age of onset.

Another key element brought forward from my research is relaxation and different types of therapies. This links to some of the results from the questionnaires as a lot of people said they would like relaxation or therapeutic techniques to be used when at the dentist.

I have read through the questionnaires and next I am going to collate the data to create charts and diagrams of the results.

Questionnaires updates

I have now had some feedback on my questionnaires. Yesterday I pick up my batch from the Broomfield Orthodontic Clinic. These questionnaires were helpful but had a few problems. I gave fifteen questionnaires to be filled out by their patients, who I thought would be children as the orthodontist only works with this age group. However when I picked them up i found some of the parents filled in the questionnaire about their dentist. I can use these result for middle aged group but I have fewer teenagers than expected. Overall I have twelve questionnaires filled out by teenagers.
I have also given fifteen questionnaires to M & C Dentistry.
After collecting my questionnaires I went to survey the general public up and down the high street. In this time i gathered fifteen more replies. When doing this it was actually more difficult than I thought as i was there for almost three hours.

Today my main client called and I have taken out twenty-five questionnaires to this surgery. Once they are filled out I will hopefully receive a call and we are going to arrange an interview about how he feels about the patients journey through the practice.

All together I have now handed out seventy questionnaires and I waiting to receive the forty back from my clients.

Questionnaires and Supervisor Meeting

Today i had my second supervisor meeting at 10am. We decided the next steps I need to complete before the next meeting on the 15Th. I need to finish handing out my questionnaires and start to analyses my feedback. I have also got to write my introduction to my project and write about my literature search.
In total I have now sent out thirty questionnaires but i am still waiting for my main client from the Advanced Dental Clinic to reply.

Supervisor Meeting

Yesterday I had a supervisor meeting which went well. I now need to write about my literature search and start on my introduction.
I have have 3 surgeries willing to do my questionnaire, I am just waiting for my main client to reply. I took one set out yesterday which i will receive back Monday and I am going to take out a set today. I will also do some questionnaires out in Chelmsford High Street.

Waiting for Replies

I am currently waiting for replies from my dental surgeries. Broomfield orthodontic surgery has said yes to having my questionnaire left in the waiting room which is a start. I did want to be there while the questionnaires were completed as i could see there was not influence between patients. However this a good start as i will be able to compare to surgeries.

The dental clinic in chelmsford are currently looking at my questionnaire but my client is on holiday until the end of next week.

Whilst waiting for replies i am going to complete my literary review by using the Harvard referencing system.

First Supervisor Meeting

After the first supervisor meeting on the 11th October there were several ideas brought forward. I have made some changes on my questionnaire before giving it to my client on Monday 15th October.

In the first supervisor meeting we also went over the literature found of my final project subject. Now i have several books, papers, journals and websites i need to form a bibliography and a literature review.

Background Research

I have assigned my supervisor on the 1st October and we arranged our first meeting on the 11th October. Before this meeting i must complete my beginning background research and my proposal form needs to be handed in by the 5th October

I have an appointment at the library training centre to learn more about searching for journals. I will be using books from the university and Chelmsford town library.

Once these resoursce have been gathered i will have to use the harvard referncing system to show I have looked at them while completing my final project.

Pilot questionnaire

I have designed a pilot questionnaire to us in dental surgeries and in public. The questionnaire is currently with my main client who is going to look over the content and suggest any improvements. I will use the feedback to improve my questionnaire before completing the questions with the patients.

My Brief

How would you re-design the 'dental experience'? Examine the whole 'user journey' and explore how a innovative, design-led method could unlock new solutions and approaches to improve this aspect of health care. This should involve consideration of interaction between patient and practice before and after visiting the surgery, also consider the the flow of patients in the surgery.
